Historical Background – 112th Territorial Defense Brigade:

The 112th Territorial Defense Brigade (unit A7296) was formed in 2018 as part of Ukraine’s efforts to build a robust reserve and homeland defense structure. Based in Kyiv, the brigade is composed of battalions stationed throughout the capital city’s districts and adjacent areas.

Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the 112th Brigade played a key role in the defense of Kyiv, participating in urban combat, securing logistics corridors, and protecting critical infrastructure. Units from the brigade helped fortify positions around Hostomel, Bucha, and Irpin during Russia’s failed attempt to seize the capital.

After the withdrawal of Russian forces from northern Ukraine, the 112th Brigade continued to serve in both local defense roles and reinforcement operations. Its battalions were later deployed to support counteroffensives in the eastern and southern sectors.

As of 2024, the brigade remains actively engaged in Ukraine’s defense, combining urban protection duties in Kyiv with operational deployment to front-line regions when needed.
