Historical Background – 36th Separate Marine Brigade:
The 36th Marine Brigade is one of the most battle-hardened formations in Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Originally based in Mykolaiv, the brigade has taken part in critical defense operations since 2014 and is known for its role in the siege of Mariupol, where many of its soldiers fought to the last during Russia’s encirclement of the city in 2022.
Following regrouping and rearmament, the brigade continues to operate in key sectors along Ukraine’s southern frontlines. It remains a symbol of Ukrainian resilience and resistance, embodying the legacy of naval infantry in modern warfare.
