The patch belongs to the 3rd Separate Tank Brigade (в/ч А0709), a Ukrainian Armed Forces armored unit established in 2016 in response to Russian aggression in Eastern Ukraine. The brigade has been actively deployed in both defensive and offensive operations throughout the ongoing war in Ukraine, including counteroffensives in Kharkiv and Donbas regions.

This patch is worn by Ukrainian tank crews and mechanized infantry operating T-64 and T-72 tanks in active combat zones.

Historical Background – 3rd Separate Tank Brigade (Ukraine):

The 3rd Separate Tank Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (military unit A0709) was established in 2016 as part of Ukraine’s effort to rebuild and modernize its armored forces after the outbreak of the war in Donbas. Initially based in Chernihiv Oblast, the brigade was equipped with Soviet-era T-64BV tanks and gradually received modernized vehicles.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, the brigade has played a critical role in defending Ukraine’s territory. It was actively engaged in battles in Kharkiv Oblast, where it helped push back Russian forces during Ukraine’s successful counteroffensive in the autumn of 2022.

Elements of the brigade have also participated in operations in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, often performing breakthrough maneuvers or supporting infantry with direct fire support.

The 3rd Separate Tank Brigade remains one of the key armored units in the Ukrainian Ground Forces, contributing significantly to Ukraine’s continued resistance against Russian military aggression.
