56th Guards Air Assault Brigade Patch, an esteemed formation within the Russian Airborne Forces (VDV). Established in 1979, the brigade has participated in numerous significant military operations, showcasing its prowess and dedication.
The 56th Guards Air Assault Brigade was formed on October 1, 1979, in Chirchiq from the disbanded 105th Guards Airborne Division’s 351st Guards Airborne Regiment. The brigade inherited the battle honors of its predecessor and was soon deployed to Afghanistan, where it played a crucial role in securing strategic locations during the Soviet–Afghan War.
Throughout its history, the brigade has been actively involved in various conflicts, including the First and Second Chechen Wars. In 2021, the brigade was reorganized into the 56th Guards Air Assault Regiment and relocated to Feodosia in Crimea, becoming part of the 7th Guards Mountain Air Assault Division.
In 2022, the regiment participated in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, notably in the capture of Kherson and engagements in the Zaporizhia Oblast. The unit has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, maintaining its reputation as an elite airborne formation.
