Historical Background – 65th Mechanized Brigade:
The 65th Mechanized Brigade (military unit A7013) was formed on April 16, 2022, in Starychi, Lviv Oblast, as part of Ukraine’s rapid military expansion following the full-scale Russian invasion.

Initially stationed in the Zaporizhzhia direction, the brigade gained combat experience in late 2022. In the summer of 2023, it played a key role in Ukraine’s southern counteroffensive, including the liberation of Robotyne village near Orikhiv. The brigade was widely praised for its professionalism and courage, with several officers, including Major Taras Mykhalchuk, receiving national awards for their leadership in battle.

On December 20, 2024, the unit was honored with the title “Velykyi Luh” by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commemorating the historical region near the Dnipro River and highlighting the brigade’s valor and effectiveness.

As of late 2024, the brigade remained active near the Orikhiv frontline, continuing its contribution to Ukraine’s defense.
