The 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, also known as the “Galician Brigade,” is one of Ukraine’s most distinguished military units. Its lineage traces back to the 80th Airborne Regiment formed in 1955, which participated in significant operations such as the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and the Prague Spring in 1968.

After Ukraine’s independence, the unit underwent several transformations, becoming the 6th Separate Airmobile Brigade in 1995 and later reorganized into the 80th Airmobile Regiment in 1999. In 2013, it was upgraded to the 80th Airmobile Brigade and redesignated as an air assault brigade in 2015.
