Historical Background – 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade:

The 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade, also known as the “Polesian Brigade,” is one of Ukraine’s most distinguished military units. Established in 1992 in Zhytomyr, the brigade evolved from the 242nd Training Tank Regiment into a premier airborne unit.

In 1995, it was reorganized into the 95th Separate Airborne Brigade, and by 2016, it had become the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade.

The brigade has participated in various international missions, including peacekeeping operations in Lebanon, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, the former Yugoslavia, Kosovo, and Iraq.

During the War in Donbas, the brigade conducted a notable 450 km raid behind enemy lines in 2014, considered one of the longest armored raids in military history.

In the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, the 95th Brigade has been instrumental in several key operations, including the defense of Kyiv, battles in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and counteroffensives in the Kursk Oblast.

The brigade is renowned for its rapid deployment capabilities, effective use of modern warfare tactics, and resilience in the face of adversity.
