Historical Background – Donbas Battalion:

The Donbas Battalion was formed in May 2014 as a volunteer unit under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in response to Russian-backed separatist uprisings in the Donetsk region. Initially a territorial defense battalion, it quickly became known for its effectiveness and courage in frontline battles.

The unit was integrated into the National Guard of Ukraine as the 2nd Battalion of the 24th Operational Brigade. It participated in key operations in eastern Ukraine, including battles in Ilovaisk, Shyrokyne, and Mariupol.

During the 2022 full-scale invasion, the Donbas Battalion was reactivated and took part in defense and counteroffensive missions, especially in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia directions. Its personnel continue to serve as a symbol of Ukrainian resistance, combining experience, local knowledge, and strong volunteer spirit.

This patch is an original Ukrainian-made insignia, worn by members of a unit that has been actively engaged in defending Ukraine since the first phase of the war.
