This 7×8 cm patch is attached to field gear, tactical uniforms, and combat vests by personnel involved in operations across the southern regions of Ukraine, including Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and parts of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
Historical Background – Operational Command “South” (ОК “Юг”):
Operational Command “South” is one of the key regional commands within the structure of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, responsible for overseeing military operations in the southern part of the country. It was established as part of Ukraine’s post-2014 military reform to improve regional command and control.
Headquartered in Odesa, OC “South” commands units stationed across southern and southeastern Ukraine, including mechanized brigades, artillery units, territorial defense brigades, and support elements. The command played a critical role during the 2022 Russian invasion, particularly in organizing the defense of Mykolaiv and Odesa, and in the liberation of Kherson in late 2022.
Subordinate brigades under OC “South” include the 59th, 60th, 63rd Mechanized Brigades, as well as 128th Mountain Assault Brigade and various TDF formations.
As of 2024, Operational Command “South” remains heavily involved in active operations in Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Donetsk directions, playing a key role in Ukraine’s defense and counteroffensive efforts.
