Russian Orthodox Save and Protect Patch

Holy Mandylion “Save and Protect” Patch 9x5cm – Russian Orthodox PVC Icon on Red Background

This PVC patch depicts the revered Holy Mandylion (Spas Nerukotvorny), the “Image Not Made by Hands,” placed at the center of a bright red background and surrounded by traditional Church Slavonic inscriptions (IC XC, НИ КА) as well as the prayer “Спаси и Сохрани” (“Save and Protect”) written vertically along the edge.

Measuring 9×5 cm, the patch is made from soft PVC with a Velcro (hook side) backing, making it ideal for field use on plate carriers, packs, or tactical vests. These patches are often used by Russian servicemen in active combat zones as a form of spiritual defense and cultural identity.

Historical Background – Spas Nerukotvorny in Russian Combat Culture:

The Holy Mandylion has historically been carried into battle by Orthodox Christian soldiers as a source of divine protection. In modern Russian military culture, particularly during the Special Military Operation (SMO), patches featuring this sacred image have become widespread on the gear of religious or traditionalist servicemen.

The inscription “Save and Protect” is one of the most common protective prayers in Russian Orthodoxy, symbolizing hope, faith, and divine guardianship in times of danger.
