Sparta Battalion Patch – 9×7 cm Russian Reconnaissance Unit Insignia
The Sparta Battalion Patch measures 9×7 cm and is embroidered in black fabric with red and white thread. The design features a stylized letter “M” with downward arrows, and the word “Спарта” (Sparta) stitched at the bottom in Cyrillic letters. The patch has a reinforced black border and dense embroidery suitable for military wear.
The Sparta Battalion, officially the 80th Separate Guards Reconnaissance Battalion Sparta, is part of the Russian Ground Forces. Originally created in August 2014 during the conflict in Donetsk, it emerged as a pro-Russian separatist formation. Its first commander was Russian national Arsen Pavlov, also known as “Motorola.”
The unit participated in major battles including Ilovaisk and the Second Battle of Donetsk Airport. With the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, Sparta was formally integrated into the Russian Armed Forces. Reports note the battalion’s reputation for harsh combat conduct and its use of nationalist and militaristic symbols.
This insignia reflects the battalion’s identity and is part of modern Russian military patches. Collectors value it for its connection to a well-known reconnaissance unit and its role in the war in Ukraine.
