Historical Background – 100th Territorial Defense Brigade:

The 100th Territorial Defense Brigade was established on June 27, 2018, in Volyn Oblast as part of Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its military reserve forces. Initially composed of older reservists aged 41-60, the brigade underwent training exercises to enhance its operational readiness.

With the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, the brigade’s units were actively involved in building fortifications on the northern border with Belarus to prevent a potential offensive. The brigade held various exercises to improve the efficiency of its artillery and anti-aircraft units.

On July 28, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the brigade the honorary title “For Courage and Bravery,” making it the first Territorial Defense Brigade to receive this distinction.

On March 30, 2024, the brigade was reorganized into the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade, transitioning from the Territorial Defense Forces to the Ukrainian Ground Forces. This reformation aimed to enhance the brigade’s combat capabilities and integrate it more closely with the regular army.

Throughout its service, the 100th Territorial Defense Brigade has demonstrated resilience and dedication, contributing significantly to Ukraine’s defense efforts during times of conflict.
