Historical Background – 109th Territorial Defense Brigade:

The 109th Territorial Defense Brigade was established on July 1, 2018, in Donetsk Oblast as part of Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its military reserve forces. The brigade comprises several Territorial Defense Battalions located in various districts of Donetsk Oblast, including Bakhmut, Volnovakha, Kramatorsk, Mariupol, Marinka, and Pokrovsk.

With the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, the brigade’s units were actively involved in the defense of key regions. The brigade participated in joint exercises with police, national guard, security services, civilian medics, local government officials, and fire rescue services to enhance its operational readiness.

Throughout its service, the 109th Territorial Defense Brigade has demonstrated resilience and dedication, contributing significantly to Ukraine’s defense efforts during times of conflict.
