Historical Background – 82nd Territorial Defense Brigade:

The 82nd Territorial Defense Brigade was created in 2022 during the rapid expansion of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces following Russia’s invasion. Based in Ternopil Oblast, the brigade was formed primarily from local volunteers and reservists to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure, logistics, and regional defense.

Though originally intended for static defense roles, by mid-2022 units of the 82nd Brigade were deployed beyond Ternopil region to support active operations on the front lines. Elements of the brigade participated in reinforcement missions in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia directions.

As of 2024, the 82nd Brigade remains an active and combat-ready component of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense structure, with several battalions maintaining rotational presence in high-risk sectors while also continuing regional security operations in western Ukraine.
